Email sent to family and
friends by my Dad.
Some of you are aware
that my wife had a heart attack Thursday morning, April 4, 2002.
We were
in Houston on a business
trip and she was with me to shop and enjoy the kids and grandkids.
We were
very lucky to be here in Houston at the hotel, Renaissance at Greenway 6,
when the heart attack occurred. The hotel personnel and emergency response
people responded quickly at 1:30 AM. In 10 minutes the medical people were
there ready to take her to the hospital. They performed an EKG in the room
and the emergency response lady told someone on the phone that she did not
like the results of the EKG. They then prepared her to be taken to the
hospital. When they put her into the ambulance she quit breathing. They
tried to revive her by manual chest manipulations, which did not work;
therefore, they finally had to perform the shock treatment to bring her
back.
She was
taken to the Methodist hospital where the DeBakey cardiac center is located.
She was in the emergency room for about 15 minutes and then taken to the
cardiac intensive care unit. The doctor informed me that they would do an
angioplasty to determine the extent of the problem and would perform the
required processes to open her arteries.
Normally
they would allow a patient to go home after 48 hours after a stint is
installed. However since she had the cardiac arrest they would have to keep
her for an addition al 48 hours.
She would
not have survived if the Renaissance Hotel Staff and the HFD Emergency
Response Team had not responded as quickly as they did!!! Thanks for great
people like these!!!
